AAFA sent a letter addressed to Acting Commissioner David Aguilar of U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) thanking CBP for their rapid response to clear vessel backlogs after the 2012 8-day labor strike in the Ports of LA/Long Beach, and their guidance for diverted and anchored vessels in the case of an East and Gulf Coast strike upon the December 29 Master Contract expiration.

AAFA joined the associations representing the entire U.S. footwear industry in sending a letter urging U.S. Customs and Border Protection to make a final determination ASAP on the meaning of the new Additional U.S. Note 5 to Chapter 64 of the HTSUS, which was created as part of the new footwear textile oustole rules implemented by President Barack Obama on December 3, 2011.
