Description:

As U.S. tariffs reshape global supply chains, workers in key apparel-producing countries are bearing the costs. Suppliers report brands shifting, cancelling, or pausing orders and demanding discounts from factories, contributing to layoffs, factory closures, and growing economic insecurity. These developments underscore the broader human rights risks facing workers and communities amid a rapidly changing political and economic environment. As expectations around responsible business conduct continue to rise, failing to respect human rights is not only harmful to workers—it also creates significant legal, operational, financial, and reputational risks for companies.

Join this AAFA member briefing where Business & Human Rights Centre (BHRC) will discuss ensuring respect for worker and human rights in today's turbulent context. Drawing on BHRC's latest research and monitoring, the session will explore how apparel, footwear, and travel goods companies are responding to growing anti-rights and anti-sustainability pressures, and the risk these trends pose to workers - and businesses - around the world.

Speaker:
Chloe Cole, US Business and Human Rights Senior Researcher, Business & Human Rights Centre (BHRC).
