Person of the Year

Emanuel (Manny) Chirico, Chairman and CEO, PVH Corp.

Manny Chirico has been with PVH for more than 20 years and has served as Chief Executive Officer since 2006 and Chairman since 2007. Under Manny’s leadership, PVH has become one of the largest apparel companies in the world, including through his engineering of the transformative acquisitions of Tommy Hilfiger in 2010 and Warnaco in 2013. He also played a key role in the 2003 acquisition of Calvin Klein. These transactions, along with others, added new brands and product categories to the PVH portfolio and saw PVH’s business expand beyond North America to include retail, wholesale and licensing businesses covering all major global markets.

Previously, Manny held a number of financial and operational positions within PVH, including President & Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining PVH, Manny was a Partner at the international accounting firm, Ernst & Young, running their Retail and Apparel Practice Group.

Manny has always been passionate about giving back to the community. His philanthropic work includes serving on the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, Fordham University (Class of '79), as well as the board for Save the Children and Montefiore Medical Center. Manny supports the Ronald McDonald House in New York City, and was honored at their 23rd Annual Gala in 2015. He is a member of the Committee for Economic Development and sits on the President’s Advisory committee for U.S. Trade Policy and Negotiations. Manny is also on the Board of Directors at Dick's Sporting Goods.

As CEO and Chairman of Camuto Group’s corporate board, Alex Del Cielo sets company strategy and communicates Camuto Group’s vision. He manages day-to-day corporate operations and supports relationships with Camuto Group partners, clients and licensees. Alex also develops new business opportunities and identifies potential company acquisitions.

Prior to his promotion to CEO in 2015, Alex served as Camuto Group’s President and Chief Operating Officer, working closely with company founder Vince Camuto (1936-2015) from Camuto Group’s inception in 2001.

Alex and Vince Camuto’s professional partnership spanned almost 30 years. In 1988, Alex joined Nine West, the renowned shoe company also founded by Vince Camuto. After serving in a range of operational roles at Nine West, Alex was promoted in 1994 to Executive Vice President of Operations.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Alex graduated from St. Francis College and earned an MBA in International Finance from St. John’s University.

Joseph Altuzarra, Creative Director of Altuzarra

Born and raised in Paris, Joseph Altuzarra has been keenly interested in the transformative power of fashion since a young age.

His multicultural upbringing and avid interest in different facets of culture, ranging from film, literature to crafts are key influences throughout his collections. Since the launch of Altuzarra in 2008, Joseph has received numerous accolades for his work, from Forbes’ 30 Under 30, Swarovski Award for Womenswear Design, as well as Business of Fashion’s #BoF500.

In 2014, Joseph was named by the Council of Fashion Designers America as the Womenswear Designer of the Year and in 2017, the Accessories Council’s Designer of the Year.

Altuzarra is a luxury women’s ready-to-wear and accessories brand built upon the guideposts of sensuality, folkloric inspiration and Joseph’s Gallic heritage.

John Frierson
John Frierson is the President of Fred Segal. Before joining the iconic Los Angeles retailer, Frierson founded the Lifestyle Group at Creative Artists Agency, where he created celebrity and designer brands for major retailers worldwide (including Target, Bloomingdales, John Lewis, David Jones). During his time at CAA, Frierson led the company to break new ground representing designers and lifestyle brands ranging from Missoni and TOMS to Cheesecake Factory and California Baby. These programs generated over $1 billion in retail sales. Prior to CAA, Frierson created and ran his own thriving branding/licensing agency with offices in New York and Paris. He was directly responsible for generating licensing revenue, and managing marketing budgets for global brands such as Adidas, Coty Inc., Moët & Chandon, Jil Sander, VOSS and Dom Pérignon. John graduated Phi Beta Kappa from University of North Carolina, taught design at Parsons and in his spare time he grew and sold thousands of pounds of garlic at his farm in Connecticut. John lives in Los Angeles with his super talented wife and two daughters.

Allison Samek, CEO of Fred Segal, has over twenty years of experience in retail and throughout her career has focused on operations, strategic planning, and marketing. Samek began her career at Deloitte Consulting as a Strategy Business Analyst focused on the retail and apparel sectors. After her time at Deloitte, Samek served as Brand Manager for eBay in the Clothing, Shoes and Accessories group, where she led all fashion marketing and developed the global handbag authentication process. Following her time at eBay, she moved to Ron Herman to launch and run the company’s e commerce business, eventually overseeing all operations, finance, marketing, and HR. After a decade at Ron Herman, Allison accepted her position as Chief Executive Officer of Fred Segal. Allie holds a BA in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She is married with two sons and lives in Los Angeles.

Mansur Gavriel

Mansur Gavriel is a New York City based design label founded by Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel in the spring of 2012.

Mansur Gavriel creates elevated leather goods and ready-to-wear, made in Italy, from fine Italian leathers and fabrics. The philosophy of the brand is to design classic yet refined silhouettes emphasizing color and material as means to express a range of emotions.

Designer Rachel Mansur studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and graduated with a BFA in Textiles. Designer Floriana Gavriel studied at the University of the Arts Bremen in Germany and graduated with a BFA in Fashion Design.

Rachel and Floriana met in Los Angeles in 2010, and quickly became long distance collaborators. In April 2012, the pair relocated to New York and founded Mansur Gavriel.

The Mansur Gavriel handbag collection debuted with Fall 2013 at Net-a-Porter and other high-end specialty retailers. Today, Mansur Gavriel has a strong and dedicated customer base; it is sold in over 100 retailers globally, including Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Le Bon Marché, Dover Street Market, Opening Ceremony and more.

In Spring 2016 Mansur Gavriel presented their first shoe collection, which is now sold alongside the bags at retailers worldwide, as well as on their own e-commerce site, launched in 2014.

In Fall 2017 the brand debuted ready to wear in its first see now buy now collection, presenting a range of outerwear and knits sold exclusively at Net-a-Porter, Bergdorf Goodman, colette and Mansur Gavriel.

The addition of ready-to-wear to their offering marks an important step in the development of the brand which will launch four collections a year from 2018.

Mansur Gavriel has two New York City stores, the first opened late 2016 in Soho, followed by a Pop-Up on Madison avenue, Upper East Side, in October 2017. The brand’s first West Coast location opens early 2018 on Melrose place in Los Angeles.

Mansur Gavriel was the recipient of the 2015 Council of Fashion Designers of America Swarovski Award for Accessory Design, as well as the 2016 Accessory Designer of the Year Award.

Katie Couric (@katiecouric) is an award-winning journalist, cancer advocate, documentary filmmaker and New York Times best-selling author of The Best Advice I Ever Got: Lessons From Extraordinary Lives.

Couric launched her production company, Katie Couric Media in the spring of 2015 and is actively involved in a number of scripted and unscripted projects including: FLINT, for Lifetime with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron; a forthcoming scripted series for Netflix based on the Pulitzer Prize winning exposé An Unbelievable Story of Rape; and SCRAPS, a series about sustainable food for the FYI network. She hosts an eponymous podcast on the Stitcher network with Brian Goldsmith, featuring conversations with boldfaced names in politics, media and popular culture.

Couric’s documentaries include: Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric, for National Geographic; Under the Gun, which aired on EPIX; and Fed Up, which looks at the roots of the obesity epidemic and is currently available on Netflix. Following the success of Gender Revolution, Couric is partnering with National Geographic on a six part documentary series that will take a deep dive into the revolutionary changes and major social issues of our time.

Couric joined CBS as the first woman at the helm of an evening news cast after a 15-year run as co-anchor of NBC’s Today Show. Prior to that, she was the deputy Pentagon correspondent for NBC News. Couric served as the Global New Anchor for Yahoo News, interviewing a variety of leading political and cultural figures and anchoring breaking news coverage. Her daytime talk show, which was syndicated by ABC-Disney, aired from 2012 – 2014 and averaged two million viewers daily. It remains the highest premiere of any new daytime talk show.

Couric is a co-founder of Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance (NCCRA), initiatives launched by the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF). SU2C has raised over $500 million to fund scientific research teams that emphasize collaboration and innovation. Couric also established the Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health at NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Her awards include a duPont-Columbia, Peabody, two Edward R. Murrows, a Walter Cronkite Award from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School, and multiple Emmys. She’s been recognized by the Harvard School of Public Health with the Julius B Richmond Award (the highest honor) and the American Association for Cancer Research Award for Distinguished Public Service for her advocacy for cancer research and awareness efforts. Couric has also received a Medal of Honor from the American Cancer Society, the highest civilian honor.

Born in Arlington, Virginia, Couric graduated with honors from the University of Virginia in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in English and a focus on American Studies. She has two daughters, Ellie and Carrie, and lives in New York City with her husband, John Molner.

Owned and operated by the AAFA, the American Image Awards began in 1977 to honor those who have exemplified leadership, excellence, and outstanding achievement in all sectors of the apparel and footwear industry, including education, design, manufacturing, and retail.

The CFDA Foundation is a separate not-for-profit organization, which was created to raise funds for charity and industry activities. Through innovative partnerships with brands, retailers, and CFDA designers, the Foundation is able to leverage fashion and effectively generate awareness and funds for these charitable causes.
