Webinar: Product Safety in 2019 and What You Need to Know

This webinar will be a product safety update with a focus on CPSC priorities, state product safety actions, and the work the AAFA is doing at the state level.
Audience: Open industry. All apparel and footwear industry professionals, regardless of AAFA membership, are encouraged to participate.


Product safety is an ever-evolving discipline. Regulations and compliance standards are shifting, and change is here in 2019. With recent changes at the federal level, and a variety of state initiatives under consideration, it is more important than ever for you and your team to be in the know. This webinar will focus on recent priorities issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), including wearables, IOT, anti-counterfeiting, as well as review potential new regulation at the state level. The webinar will also highlight tools and resources that will help you meet these challenges.

Rick Horwitch is Vice President, Strategy, Solutions Business Development and Marketing, for Bureau Veritas – Consumer Products Services. Bureau Veritas is the world’s oldest and one of the largest providers of Quality, Healthy, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability (QHSES) services.  Bureau Veritas’ customers include 48 of the top 50 retailers in North America and 41 of the top 50 consumer products brands. Rick’s focus is on developing Supply Chain Risk and Quality Management (SCRQM) and Sustainability solutions, as well as strategic partnerships and alliances which help their customers protect their brands, reduce cost and improve cycle time. Rick has over 30 years experience in the consumer products industry covering all facets of business – Sourcing, Sales, Marketing and Operations with companies such as Deena, Kurt Salmon Associates and Warnaco. He sits on the advisory boards of:

Srini Venkataraman has worked in the Textile Industry for over 25 years. His experience includes installation of spinning frames, production, dyeing, fiber analysis, managing the textile testing laboratory and program management. He has worked at Bureau Veritas for the past 21 years in various capacities and currently is a Global Technical specialist. He is passionate about finding unique solutions to problems. When he is not at work he likes to spend time with his family and pets, tendering his garden and wood working. 


Kristen Kern
Government Relations Representative

As a Government Relations Representative, Kristen leads the AAFA Sustainability portfolio, working with government and industry professionals to further environmental sustainability in the apparel and footwear industry. She also leads the AAFA Product Safety portfolio, collaborating with stakeholders to create best practices and regulation for safe, quality products for consumers. Kristen holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Fashion Merchandising and Design, and French, with a minor in Chemistry from Virginia Tech.
