12.07.16 - AAFA Urges FMC to Reign In Excessive Demurrage Fees

AAFA and 24 other organizations petitioned the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) to use the FMC's existing authority to establish a policy to prevent ocean carriers and terminal operators from charging shippers unreasonable and excessive demurrage fees for situations beyond the shipper's control - such as extreme weather, port strikes/slowdowns, and ocean carrier bankruptcies.

AAFA joined dozens of other stakeholders in urging the World Bank to establish benchmarks the Uzbek government must meet in prevent the use of government-sanctioned and government-orchestrated forced labor in Uzbekistan's annual cotton harvest. The World Bank should require that the benchmarks be met in order for World Bank loans to Uzbekistan to continue.
